SUSIE
If you asked me what has shaped my life, I couldn't point to one defining moment. It's been a collection of moments. Some chosen. Some unexpected.
I've never been afraid to step into the unknown. Sometimes that's taken me around the world. Sometimes into leadership roles that stretched me. Sometimes into experiences that changed me completely. Every chapter has left me with a slightly different perspective, a deeper appreciation of people and another reminder that life rarely unfolds the way we imagine it will.
Life has taught me that none of us are defined by a single chapter. I've seen extraordinary courage in people facing some of life's toughest moments, and I've witnessed the strength it takes to begin again. It's a privilege to have been trusted with stories that will never be mine to tell, and those experiences have shaped me just as much as my own.
Adventure
Adventure has taught me to trust myself.
Leadership
Leadership has taught me humility.
Motherhood
Motherhood has taught me perspective.
Volunteering
Volunteering has taught me gratitude.
Heartbreak
Heartbreak has taught me resilience.
Laughter
Laughter has taught me not to take life, or myself, too seriously.
Together, they've shaped the person I am today.
I'm endlessly curious about people. I love understanding what makes us tick, what gives us energy, what keeps us awake at night and what becomes possible when we stop trying to live someone else's version of success.
The people closest to me would describe me as loyal, courageous and compassionate. They'd also tell you I'm direct, adventurous, fiercely optimistic and always up for a laugh. I love sailing because it reminds me how small we are. I love house music because life should be celebrated. I believe in deep conversations, meaningful relationships and making time for the people who matter.
I don't have all the answers. I never will. But I do know this: life is too short to live by default, too precious to spend becoming who someone else expects you to be, and too full of possibility to let fear make your decisions. That's the life I live. It's also the life I encourage in others.
The Bits That Made Me
- I left school at 16 but I've never stopped learning.
- At 17, I lied about my age so I could qualify as a YMCA Fitness Instructor a year early.
- I've qualified as a personal trainer, swim teacher, massage therapist, executive coach, organisational development practitioner and more. I don't chase certificates, I chase learning.
- I got on a plane to Australia, aged 22 on my own because I wanted to see the world.
- I went back a second time and completely fucked it up. It wasn't all my fault, but I learned the difference between excuses and accountability.
- I was made redundant at 50. It gave me the push to build the life I'd been talking about for years.
- My son has a disability. It broke my heart, reshaped my priorities and made me fiercer than I ever thought possible.
- I volunteer with Ocean Youth Trust Scotland because I've seen what happens when young people are trusted before they've learned to trust themselves.
- I grew up in the illegal rave scene of the early '90s. We'd meet at motorway service stations before finding a field, a warehouse or wherever the music had taken us.
- Thirty years later, you'll still find me on a dance floor. House. Trance. Rave. Give me music and good people and I'm home.
- I've crossed oceans under sail and danced until sunrise. Both have taught me something about feeling alive.
- I've personal trained celebrities, coached executives, worked with people at rock bottom and people at the top of their game. Underneath it all, we're just human.
- I speak up when something isn't right, especially when someone else can't.
- I'm not religious. I'm not interested in political tribes. I care far more about kindness, courage and doing the right thing.
- I laugh loudly, cry easily and swear more than my mum would like.
- I've started over more than once.
- I'd rather live an interesting life than an easy one.
